Brandon Selby Blanken, DPM, FACFAS, DABFAS
DR. BRANDON SELBY BLANKEN IS BOARD CERTIFIED IN FOOT SURGERY & RECONSTRUCTIVE REARFOOT/ANKLE SURGERY BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF FOOT AND ANKLE SURGERY
Dr Blanken is equipped and qualified to surgically treat all pathology of the foot and ankle. Not all problems require surgery, and Dr. Blanken firmly believes that surgery should only be pursued if conservative management fails to meet the patients' specific goals. If your foot and ankle problem is causing pain or weakness that makes you unable to reach your goals, conservative modalities including but not limited to bracing, injections, oral and topical medications, and physical therapy will be exhausted before a patient specific surgical plan is recommended.
Brandon Selby Blanken DPM, FACFAS, DABFAS joined Blanken Foot And Ankle in 2023. He is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. The latter certification is held by less than 10% of podiatric surgeons in Maryland. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), an active member in the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and the Maryland Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA), where he serves as secretary. He completed his surgical training in 2023 at Eastern Virginia Medical School (now known as Old Dominion University) at Norfolk General Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center. Dr. Blanken had immense exposure to a wide array of surgical approaches by fellowship trained podiatric foot and ankle surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, and vascular surgeons. This unique training background allows Dr. Blanken to approach any foot and ankle pathology with the most up to date techniques. Dr. Blanken’s expertise in minimally invasive surgery, arthroscopic surgery, external fixation, reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, and trauma of the foot and ankle has afforded him the opportunity to speak at regional conferences, participate as a Key Opinion leader within the industry, and to participate as an attending foot and ankle surgeon for local resident programs including MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the Baltimore VA. Dr. Blanken has a special interest in trauma of the ankle and foot, sports injuries of the foot and ankle, foot and ankle reconstruction including total ankle replacement, arthroscopic surgery and joint restorative techniques for the ankle and foot, external fixation and limb salvage, and minimally invasive surgery for bunion, ankle, and achilles pathologies. Dr. Blanken is accepting new patients at the Silver Spring office.
Dr. Brandon Blanken has a special interest in treating athletes, foot and ankle trauma from sprains to fracture care and reconstruction of arthritic and or flat feet. Dr. Blanken believes surgery should be a last resort, and conservative management should be exhausted until surgery is absolutely necessary.
Dr. Brandon Blanken is a Montgomery County native and was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School and was also a graduate at the University of Maryland where he enjoyed playing on the club hockey team all four years. Dr. Blanken enjoys playing golf and ice hockey, following DC sports, and trying new and unique foods in the DC area.
